How does charging work?
What happens when electricity enters the vehicle?
The difference between AC and DC charging is where the electricity is converted. Switch between the tabs, then see who limits the power for your selected vehicle.

Storage
Vehicle battery
During AC charging, power delivered to the vehicle depends on the charger’s current setting, whether the connection is single-phase or three-phase, and the vehicle’s onboard charger (OBC) capacity. Even with a more powerful charger, the vehicle does not draw power above its OBC limit.
Who limits the power for your selected vehicle?
TOGG T10X V2 Long Range (RWD)
Theoretical upper limit
11 kW
The device and vehicle limits are equal: 11 kW.
The diagram is for information only; actual charging power may vary with the electrical installation, circuit breaker rating, temperature and the vehicle’s charging management.
Calculation method
How Do We Calculate?
⚡ Bottleneck and Phase Rule (AC)
Effective AC power is the lower of the charger’s power and the vehicle’s onboard charger (OBC) limit: a vehicle accepting 11 kW draws no more than 11 kW even from a 22 kW charger. Vehicles accepting only single-phase charging use one phase of a three-phase charger: 7.4 kW on a 22 kW charger, and 3.7 kW on a 11 kW charger. The calculation assumes 90% AC conversion efficiency.
📈 Real Charging Curve (DC)
DC charging power falls as the battery fills. If a published charging time is available for the vehicle, we adjust the model to that time and state-of-charge range; otherwise, we estimate using a general ratio. Select a DC charger to open a graph showing the model’s power and time changes.
🌡️ Temperature Effect
Low battery temperature significantly reduces DC charging power; the air temperature you select directly affects the time calculation. Temperature has a smaller effect on AC charging, and the calculation accounts for it accordingly.
💰 Honest Cost
At home, the meter measures the grid side: the billed energy is ~10% more than what reaches the battery. A public DC station bills from the connector (~7% loss share). We calculate the cost based on the kWh you will actually pay for.
Vehicle data are compiled from manufacturer documents and independent data sources (ev-database.org); range figures are WLTP values or real-world estimates, depending on the source.
Results are estimates. Actual charging time may vary with battery temperature, battery age, preconditioning and power sharing at dual-connector stations. Charging above 80% on DC significantly increases the time required. Cost is an estimate calculated using your selected tariff.
